August 12, 2014 (PORTLAND, OREGON) --
Unusual among metal musicians, Labryse brings an aggressive queer voice to traditional thrash metal. Recorded in one afternoon at Small Servant Studios with Lauren K Newman of LKN and Palo Verde, “Awaken The Sleeper: Rough Cuts” is a taste of what’s to come. In addition to kicking off their first tour, Labryse is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo in preparation for recording a full length album in a professional studio setting.
Labryse plays with a ferocity rarely seen among projects composed entirely of queers and women, both groups who are greatly under-represented in Metal music. Lead guitarist Ash Juno Inferna brings a frenetic style heavily influenced by Chuck Schuldiner of Death. Emerging from the hardcore scenes of Portland and Eugene, drummer Kat Endgame cites Danny Carey of Tool as her primary influence. Rhythm guitarist Juanes Collazo and bassist Kelly Duncan finish out the band creating a sound reminiscent of traditional metal adding elements of black metal and hardcore.
